Description

AFFF 3% is an aqueous film-forming foam concentrate (popularly known as AFFF 3%) made up of fluorocarbon and hydrocarbon surfactants, as well as a variety of preservatives, solvents, and stabilizers. One of the things this foam does is form an aqueous coating that blocks off the oxygen supply and extinguishes the flames quickly.

The film is drained from expanded foam, which produces a safe blanket that quells the production of flammable vapors and makes the fuel surface cool down, therefore extinguishing the fire and stopping it from rekindling. Even though it is heavier than the burning liquid, the low surface tension of the water foam allows the aqueous film to float on top of the liquid surface.
AFFF 3% should be used as a 3% proportionate solution i.e. 3 parts concentrate in 97 parts of water. It can also be stored as a premix solution in fresh water. How to Apply
AFFF 3% is designed for use on hydrocarbon fuel fires of class B, such as diesel, aviation fuels, and oil. It can be used with both aspirating and non-aspirating discharge systems.
When fast fire knock-down is required, AFFF 3% is the best choice. It can be used in both powder/foam twin agent systems and works with any dry chemical powders.
How to Preserve
This product will last for a long time if properly kept in its original, undamaged package. The shelf life of this foam, just like all other foams, is based on the storage temperatures and conditions. If perhaps the product has been frozen during storage or transportation, it can be thawed and used immediately.
It is advisable to use only stainless steel or plastic containers to store synthetic foam concentrations. Also, only one type of metal should be used for pumps, pipes, tanks and fittings used in the storage of foam concentrates. This is because electrochemical corrosion can occur at junctions between different metals when they come into contact with foam concentrate.
