It is not a debatable fact that falling while working at height is a major cause of death and injuries in the workplace, such as construction sites, manufacturing plants, electric poles, etc. One of the reasons for this is because people most times happen to make some of the basic mistakes
Personal Fall Protection Systems (PFPS) is a system of three different tools working as one to ensure the safety of its user. Hence, it is not only important to know that the system is composed of three units, but also how important they complement each other as a system. These three can be likened to a chain and where there is an inconsistency as a result of the presence of an inaccurate unit, the chain is bound to fail.
In every fall protection system, an anchor plays a very vital role. The anchor is usually a tool that is designed to connect to and hold the system. It is used to hold the lanyard or lifeline firmly. This presupposes that for the fall protection system to be effective, the anchor used must be the ideal category needed for the work and it has to be installed properly.
The weight carried by the anchor would depend on the type of fall protection system used, either a fall restraint or a fall arrest system. Also, the required strength may depend on whether or not energy-absorbing equipment is used. Generally, the strength of an anchor is determined by the following:
Design
Condition
Orientation relative to the direction of loading
Connection to the supporting structure, and
The adequacy of the structure to resist the imposed loading
There are several types of anchors available and they can be grouped based on industry, work type, building type, installation process, and configuration. However, the major categories are grouped into two and they are:
Permanent anchors: These types of anchors are built to a certain weight and given parameters. They are permanently fixed to a building as part of the structure to connect fall protection systems. A good example is roof anchors fixed on high-rise buildings.
Temporary or moveable anchors: These types of anchors are built to be attached to an existing structure using a particular installation process. Examples here are nail-on anchors that roofers use, cable rope slings, synthetic webbing slings, beam sliders, beam clamps, etc.
We have available various types of anchors for all fall protection systems. Our anchors are all in new condition as orientation, as made by the original manufacturers of fall protection kits.
